CHARACTERISTICS It is a mutation of the Green-leaved Calamondin. The light variegated Calamondin is a very vigorous plant with compact, rounded foliage and small, oval leaves. The fruit is green and light yellow initially and fully orange when ripe. It is somewhat more fragile to the cold and slower growing than the green-leaved Calamondinus. Like the green-leaved Calamondinus, the Variegated Calamondinus can also withstand the dry air of our interiors with a regular water supply.
USES The variegated foliage of green, yellow, white and cream gives an unusual tone to this very ornamental tree. In the kitchen, the peel can be used to sweeten desserts and give flavour to dishes. The fruit is also used to make delicious jams, sauces and special desserts. It also has a significant amount of essential oils in its peel.
