Citrus Hystrix
CHARACTERISTICS
Papeda or Combava, is a variety of citrus variety from the Lime collection, originally from South East Asia.
Its Latin name highlights the incredible amount of thorns the plant has, as hystrix means porcupine.
It is a small, very thorny tree with thick, lush foliage and fragrant, pungent-tasting fruit.
The skin of the fruit has a lumpy, deep green texture and combines aromas of lemongrass, coriander and ginger.
Its flowers are white and fragrant, small in clusters, similar to those of all other citrus fruits.
USES
Very attractive ornamental plant variety, particularly in spring.
Its peel and leaves are used to flavour dishes, drinks and spicy sauces.
Kaffir Lime has anti-infective and antiseptic properties and it is a good relaxant and sedative for states of anxiety, stress, agitation and insomnia.
This variety is also used as a liver decongestant, in herbal teas or simply dissolved in fresh water.
