CHARACTERISTICS It is a popular blood orange variety and is distinguished by its beautiful deep orange colour of the peel and its red flesh of various shades, juicy, with few seeds and low acidity. Blood oranges are characterised by the fact that they store red pigments (anthocyanins) at lower temperatures. In this case, sanguinello oranges do this not only in the pulp but also in the skin, which turns an attractive red colour. Like the other orange varieties, this variety also flowers for three to four weeks.
USES The particular taste of the fruit, with its negligible acidity and different sugar distribution compared to other orange varieties, is particularly sought after by a niche market. The fruit is excellent both when eaten at the table and when used for the preparation of juices.
