Citrus Mitis o Mandurensis
CHARACTERISTICS
Thanks to its abundant fructification and its white, snowflake-like flowers, the calamondino is the most ornamental citrus fruit variety there is!
It is a dwarf mandarin, considered to be a hybrid between kumquats and mandarins.
However, it is a compact tree with eliptical, dark green leaves with a sinuate margin and pointed or rounded apex and no thorns.
Its fruit are globular in shape, slightly bitter, smooth-surfaced and orange in colour and they remain on the tree throughout the year.
The orange-yellow pulp contains small, but not too many, polyembryonic seeds.
USES
Very attractive ornamental plant for indoor and outdoor use.
Its fruit is especially good for making delicious jams.
The peel is used for the production of essential oils, as a substitute for lemon or lime essential oil.
In South-East Asia, the calamondin plant is offered as a gift to wish a good start to the new year.
